‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.’ ~ Neale Donald Walsch
For some, it’s discovering new locations. For others, it’s discovering themselves. Some want to build skills and knowledge; others build resilience and courage. What makes everyone an adventurer is the desire to experience something new.
Day to day life is full of routine—monotonous and uninspiring. We go to school or to work every morning, slog for the better part of the day to earn our livelihood or in preparation for the same, and then we drag ourselves back home to have our time consumed by household chores or family obligations, by more work that needs to be done to fulfil our expectations from life. Turn off that TV, baby. Shut down that laptop. Just turn it off. Open a window and stick your head out. There’s more to life than this.
Adventures of all kinds force you to turn away from what’s familiar so you can embrace the unknown. That’s the simple beauty of it. Explorers and adventurers have no idea what’s ahead of them, but they thrive for something different; something to evoke something they’ve never felt before.
It’s time to start a love affair with the world. Let’s hit the road and throw out the map. Let’s hike in the mountains and leap over canyons. Let’s surf the waves; move to Paris; let’s find the thrill wherever we look. Nobody ever said you had to travel thousands of miles from home.
Life is short; let’s go on an adventure.
To our contributors, thank you. To our readers, enjoy. ■
Cape town
by Zoe Greenbank

Hiroshima
by Georgia Tendall
Hiroshima is a city laden with scars: powerful remnants of a violent past, woven into its durable fabric. But scars are proof of regrowth—they are, by definition, a mark of healed injury. Yet, just a short train journey can totally transport you from the harsh reality of the city and its history to an alternate realm where nature thrives in spite of mankind’s vices. Hiroshima presents a curious mix of old and new, life and death, pain and prosperity, and it is unforgettable.
putting life on mars
The atmosphere on Mars is mostly carbon dioxide, the planetary surface is too cold to sustain human life, and the gravity there is just 38 percent of Earth’s. And yet, life on Mars has fascinated and inspired people around the world seemingly since it first occurred to us we could leave Earth behind.
Picking up the bike
by Elisha Dessurne
The best way to explain what Grit Girls UAE is all about is to tell the story of my introduction into the group and what it did for me. I came across the community a few months ago and it reignited a passion for my favourite thing to do in the world—riding dirt bikes.
