Uterine

issue 002

There is no other organ quite like the uterus. If men had such an organ they would brag about it. So should we.’ - Ina May Gaskin

Why are we talking about pregnancies, uteruses and childbirth? To quote Michelle Obama, 'I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work'.

Obama was referring to her own experience with miscarriage, but her point rings true for all aspects of all things uterine. How much do you really know about what goes on in the delivery room, apart from the sterilised version you see on TV? Are you one of the two-thirds of women unable to identify the individual parts of their own genitals, and yet perfectly able to detail those of a man?

With all the drama surrounding women sharing their experiences online and being lambasted for contributing to tokophobia, we're here to join the movement and shine a floodlight on the real life experiences of women and their uteruses. Plus, we offer insight to working with children day in, day out and get to grips with the fascination with royal babies.

To our contributors, thank you. To our readers, enjoy. ■
